Press Release

Thompson Creek Habitat Restoration Project

Public Tour

Thursday, June 26th, leaving the Applegate Library @ 6:45pm

Applegate, June 19, 2014: The Applegate Partnership & Watershed Council (APWC) has scheduled a public tour of their habitat restoration project on Thompson Creek in the Middle Applegate Watershed. The tour will showcase riparian and in-stream habitat restoration efforts on almost two contiguous stream miles near Thompson Creek Road’s five mile marker.

The project has removed invasive blackberries, replanting with native vegetation, and placed in-stream large wood structures to help enhance habitat for returning salmonids including Coho. The APWC is working with over 10 landowners and local fisheries technical experts on this phase of our Thompson Creek project. The restoration efforts will provide increased shade through the riparian plantings, decreased water temperatures, increased in-stream habitat including spawning gravel, escapement/cover, improved water quality, and increased in-stream water.

The Thompson Creek valley provides important agricultural and natural resource habitat. The APWC is working with the landowners to provide improvements that benefit both our local agriculture and the natural resources. We hope you will join us on our Public Tour on Thursday, June 26th. We will leave the Applegate Library (18485 N. Applegate Rd, Applegate) at 6:45pm and begin our tour at the county bridge near the five mile marker.
